Prospector is just as good

Prospector still has a lot to offer UNC Charlotte students even with the new Union

Prospector is clearly better than the dining area in the Student Union for one reason and one reason only: Salsarita’s! When the Student Union can knock down a wall and put in a place where I can get a quesadilla or a filling taco salad, holler at your girl.

The best thing the Student Union has is Wendy’s, and if you’re really in the mood for a double stack, you’re out of luck. You may just die of starvation standing in that long line. You would’ve thought President Obama was back on campus looking at that huge group of students in line. I thought the crowd would eventually disperse after the first few weeks of school, but just last week the line was at the entrance of the dining area.

I’ve been at all but one of the dining places in the Student Union and the time it took for my food to be prepared was unbearable. I have a routine of getting a bacon, egg and cheese bagel from Einstein Bagels every Friday after class (because I don’t have any classes afterwards), and every time, I have to wait at least 10 minutes just to get a bacon, egg and cheese bagel! Really, Student Union?

Senior Ronita Hill has my back on this one. She told me that last week she ordered a plain bagel with cream cheese and waited 20 minutes!

Hill, like me, will take Prospector over the Student Union dining because it’s closer to her classes. “It’s faster and it’s what I’m used to,” she said.

Faster indeed! When I need to grab something quick to eat for class, I go to Prospector. The only place in the Student Union where I can grab something quick is Outtakes, and that’s if the line in there isn’t to the back of the store. At every register in Prospector, I can grab a soda, chips, candy or health bar – not so in our beloved Student Union.

And another thing that’s missing in the Student Union, as I look around, are televisions. Maybe that’s something the union has in the works, but until then, I can tune in to local news and ESPN at – you guessed it – Prospector.

As I close, the next best thing about Prospector is its lovely neighbor Chick-Fil-A. If I choose not to get a burger, pasta or taco, I can walk down to Chick-Fil-A to have my fill on a chicken sandwich.

See, I can easily make it to Prospector in one piece as opposed to dodging frantic drivers crossing over to get to the Student Union. The choice is simple, 49ers: I can keep my life and enjoy a nice and fast meal at the low-key Prospector, or play chicken with lunatic drivers and barely make it to the Student Union to feast on… nothing.
