Three Charlotte 49ers were able to secure qualifying times for the NCAA Track and Field Championship in Arkansas on the last day of the NCAA East Regional Championships.

Senior sprinter Lamarra Currie finished second with a time of 11.64 in the 100-meter dash. Upon her finish she earned All-Region honors for the fourth time in her career and for the second time in the event.

The Apex native also had a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.99, which was good enough for Currie to qualify for the Championship in that event as well. Former 49er Shareese Woods (2007) was the last to qualify for two individual events in the Championship for Charlotte. Currie earned three All-Region performances in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100 relay, which is the most for an athlete in a Charlotte uniform in a single year in track and field history.

Sophomore sprinter Darius Law broke his own school record in the 400-meter dash with a new time of 45.77 seconds in fifth place. The Raleigh native also finished eighth with a time of 22.30 seconds in the 200-meter dash. He will qualify with an at-large bid for the 200-meter dash.

Senior Aja Jackson placed fifth in the 800-meter run which qualifies her for the Championship for the second time in her career.

Sophomore Keara Thomas finished fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:50.83, placing her 18th out of 46.

Sophomore Dakota Lowery finished tenth in his 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:30.20, overall finishing 26th.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Currie, Chalonda Silver, Sirrell Butler and Pat Springs finished eighth at the NCAA East Regional in a time of 44.87 seconds. The 4x400 meter relay team also finished eighth as well with a 3:40.63 time.

The qualifying Niners will be back on the track for the NCAA Championship on June 10-13 in Arkansas for the NCAA Track and Field Championship.
