Seyi Odueso has been found guilty of the 2nd-degree murder of his girlfriend, UNC Charlotte student Christy Galvin, in July 2005. Odueso has been sentenced to 16 years in prison of which he has served four. It took the jury three days to come to a verdict on Monday.
Odueso, 31, was arrested as he attempted to cross the border into Canada in Galvin’s car and was originally charged with first-degree murder.
Odueso, Galvin’s boyfriend at the time, claimed that she attacked him with a knife at which point he attempted to restrain her and accidentally strangled her. The two had recently ended their relationship and had had a heated argument before the situation became violent.
Galvin was a 26 year-old former volleyball star.
