Tuesday evening the Student Government, under the direction of Jerome McMillan, held this year's Campus Safety Walk to get a hands-on idea of the state of campus safety. Members of Student Government, University administration, campus police and the press met at the Belk Tower and took part in looking for safety threats on campus.

Suspects arrested in latest round of robberies

Two suspects are in custody after the latest round of robberies in the University area. Just after midnight on Feb. 6, Charlotte Mecklenburg police got a call from an apartment complex in the 1700 block of Caroway Street. The caller told officers two men, one of whom was armed with a shotgun, had just robbed him.

Are Greek recycling problems an educational issue?

The recycling crew is frustrated with students living in UNC Charlotte's new Greek Village, which recently opened on campus. Recycling workers report that trash items thrown in the Greek Village's dedicated recycling bins slows down the University's recycling collection and ends up hitting the campus in the wallet.

One of UNC Charlotte's Economics professors, Dr. John Connaughton, holds skeptical views about the new stimulus package passed by Congress. Connaughton directs quarterly projections for North Carolina's economy for TIAA-CREF. Bailey appointed by commissioners

Two months after losing the election, chief deputy Daniel Bailey was sworn in as Mecklenburg County's new sheriff. Bailey was appointed by a 7 to 1 vote of county commissioners Tuesday night. Back on Dec. 1, Jim Pendergraph stepped down from the sheriff's post, taking a job with the Department of Homeland Security.

UNC Charlotte student murdered

The University community is mourning the loss of one of their own this week, after a tragic murder on Friday. 20-yr-old Simrit Gill, a Pre-Kinesiology major at UNC Charlotte, was found dead Friday morning in her apartment on Bennettsville Lane.
