One of the best action movies of the summer is now available on DVD. “Hellboy II: The Golden Army,” picks up where the first film left off. Liz (Selma Blair) and Hellboy (Ron Perlman) are still adjusting to their budding relationship and the red guy still can’t keep his face out of the public eye, or off YouTube. In the mystical world, trouble is brewing when exiled Prince Nuada (Luke Goss) tries to reclaim what he believes is rightfully his.
If the adventure wasn’t exciting enough on its own, the collector’s edition DVD comes stocked with a number of special features.
The number of special features offered in the collector’s edition will keep viewers busy for hours on end. Disc one of the features includes the “U-Control: Scene Explorer” option. This recreation of the environment of Hellboy incorporates visits to the set, BD-Live on My Chat, My Scenes Sharing and other exclusive content. The feature lets audience members explore the world in the movie. Audiences will also find a feature taking a Troll Market Tour.
Other interviews in the special features deal with transforming a story from comic book to the big screen and sneak peeks into the production workshop.
Disc two includes a prologue to the story of “Hellboy” for more background information and more details about who and what Hellboy really is.
The audience can also purchase the “Hellboy II Director’s Cut” on Blue Ray.
Regular editions of “Hellboy” come with commentary from Director del Toro, commentary from the cast, the Director’s Notebook and deleted scenes among other features.
The real focus of all the special features is the option available in all editions of “Hellboy,” “Hellboy II: In Service of the Demon.” This nearly three-hour long documentary follows the making of every conceivable aspect of the film. Longer than the actual movie, this special feature dives deep into the director’s intent for the movie and the energy an entire crew had to put into creating the final product.
The documentary mirrors several topics brought up in other commentary with cast and in other special features.
“Hellboy II” is rated PG-13 and now includes hours of entertainment on DVD. Prices vary on the DVD, depending on which version you purchase – ranging from the basic widescreen movie to the collectors’ edition with poster, a figurine and replica of the director’s sketchbook.
