“Andy Friedman and The Other Failures” should remind you of a long dirt road leading down to an old country farm. Although many folks do not recognize the band, Andy Friedman’s music provides for a short period of reminiscence of the simple times in life.

The album “Idaho” is due to release in January of 2009. With their small town sound, Andy Friedman & The Other Failures do not have a lot of Web information on their band members, but after listening to their music one can assume they are not going after a mainstream sound.

The album artwork on “Idaho” is very simple. A picture taken at a random billboard with all six band members with the name “Idaho” in a three-dimensional design at the top. Sometimes the best album artwork messages are conveyed in simple ways.

Andy Friedman & The Other Failures hail from the great state of New York, and more specifically, the borough of Brooklyn. Their Southern folk sound does not resemble their place of residence in the slightest bit.

The two songs on the album “Idaho” and “Road Trippin’ Daddy” are only a brief insight to the band’s never-ending creativity. My favorite song on the album is “Idaho” because of the meaningful lyrics and catchy guitar riffs.

When comparing Andy Friedman and The Other Failures to other musicians, the first person that came to mind was Johnny Cash. I can feel the idea of the great American loner in both compositions of the musicians.

Andy Friedman & The Other Failures are currently touring, and will be in Charlotte at the Evening Muse with Amy Speace & The Tearjerks. The show, presented by MaxxMusic, will take place on Oct. 25.

Overall, I would rate the album as a 3 out of 5; 1 being unbearable, and 5 being out of this world. The guitar chords in the songs are very basic, yet go along quite well with the simple, pleasant message. In my opinion, Andy Friedman and The Other Failures are not in any way, shape or form failures.
